I Am Poem

Written on August 23, 2023, at the beginning of sixth grade.

This poem was written for an English class “I Am” assignment during the first weeks of middle school. It explores empathy, self-doubt, hope, and the desire to make the world a better place.

Looking back, it captures a moment in time and reflects values that continue to shape my writing today.

I Am Poem

I am empathetic and caring,
I wonder about my future,
I hear unsaid thoughts,
I see pain and anger and frustration,
I want to grab those emotions and let them dissolve in the air,
I am empathetic and caring.

I pretend that I am in a story,
I feel like there is nothing to worry about or fear,
I touch the happiness in the world,
I worry that I am not good enough,
I cry for the less fortunate,
I am empathetic and caring.

I understand I may not be able to help everyone,
I say that everyone is trying their best,
I dream about making the world a better place,
I hope that everyone could see the vision that I see,
I am empathetic and caring.
